The president has the ultimate responsibility for franchise program direction, implementation, and supervision. He or she oversees all functional areas of the franchise program and interacts with management relative to program implementation. All positions within the franchise division report to the president. The president will be either appointed by the owner of the company that has franchised or will be the owner themselves. This is the top of the food chain in the franchise company and all of the franchise activities and responsibilities will fall under this head of command.
Specific responsibilities of the president will include:
• Formulating detailed working plans for achieving franchise program objectives.
• Designing administrative systems report formats for franchisees.
• Overseeing the activities and implementation of the franchise sales effort.
• Approving franchise candidates.
• Administering the franchise program budget and reviewing all department operating budgets.
• Managing the sales process from initial response to follow-up to closing the sale.
• Assuring strict compliance with all laws related to franchise sales.
• Ensuring that franchises are promoted and sold only to qualified prospects.
• Implementing a franchisee training program both at the franchisor's facilities and at franchisee facilities.
• Overseeing the ongoing supervision of franchisees.
The President of the Franchise System will only be as successful as the people they appoint. They are they same type of people that could be good managers of large corporations and are excellent judges of talent. In most franchise systems that are just starting up, the President of the franchise system will be responsible for every job role and as the system grows they will be allocated the budget to bring on additional staff to oversee and implement the company's growth strategies in the franchise system.
