McDonalds in the Top 10 Best Franchises in 2009

McDonalds began as a hamburger restaurant but has since incorporated a diverse menu with everything from hamburgers to chicken sandwiches to salads to even lattés. Perhaps the iconic menu has been the BigMac, but lately their recent marketing campaigns for Southern-style Chicken Sandwiches and McCafe line of coffee have been quite successful in generating new attention and revenue. Other restaurants in foreign countries even have specialty items on the menu specific to that particular culture. And of course, for the children the Happy Meal has become synonymous for child's favorite treat at a restaurant. One would be hard-pressed to find someone in this country (or even in most places in the world) who is not familiar with McDonalds. When the mascot of your franchise is more recognizable than the President of the United States, you know you're onto something.

This franchise has come a long way since beginning as a single hamburger restaurant, but there can be no doubt that today this restaurant chain is at the forefront of the fast-food industry. The franchise is so large, so widespread, and so entrenched in the global economy and mindset that it's hard to imagine a competitor overtaking its dominance in the market.

If you're a consumer with a taste for good food at good prices for the whole family, or an investor with an eye for tried and true products then McDonalds is the franchise for you; if you have the money, time to be away from home, and have the desire to have employees. The start up costs for opening one of these franchises is 950k to 1.8 million total investments. Plus an ongoing royalty fee of 12.5%! However, for those of you that are more like me, there are other means of owning your own business with less of the liability of a large franchise. Click the link below to find out more about one of them.
